This Holiday Season…
How are you strengthening your community?

Seedling’s 2014-2015 Annual Report

December 28, 2015

On behalf of Seedling Foundation, I want to thank you for your commitment to help children in our community. I am very grateful for how you are making Central Texas a better place for children.

As the year draws to a close and we reflect on how much we are thankful for, we also think about those who are still in need.

For the past five years, Seedling has served a family of six. When we began, Dianna was a single parent with five children in elementary and middle school. Her husband, the children’s father, was incarcerated when the youngest was a newborn. At the recommendation of their school counselors, each of her five children was matched with a Seedling mentor.

Today, Dianna says, “The Seedling program has truly changed the lives of my children. Other mentor programs were actually harmful because the mentors were not reliable. Through the years, my children each had a single Seedling mentor, and that has made all of the difference!”
Dianna’s oldest child recently attended ACC through a scholarship award from Seedling; the other four are excelling in school and in their personal relationships. She credits Seedling mentors with helping her and her children through such a difficult time.

Research shows children of incarcerated parents have a risk of trouble with peer relationships, cognitive delays, and difficulties in school that include poor attendance and low academic performance. The Seedling Mentor Program works to counteract these potential outcomes.

Last year you, and donors like you, helped over 600 families like Dianna’s.

While Seedling was able to support these students with a mentor, there are dozens more we simply did not have the resources to help. Because of your concern for children, I am asking you this holiday season to help Seedling meet needs such as these. Your gift, no matter the size, will help strengthen our community and show that children matter in Central Texas.

It’s easy to make a gift today. Simply go to the“Donate” page on our website, click here, or call us at 512-323-6371. During the holidays, call 512-698-6348. Thank you for your gift. Together, we are uplifting families.

With gratitude,

Shira Ledman
